Suspense Writing

I lost my way in the fog. The forest smelt like fresh mud. I was scared. The cold wind blew out of my mind. The wind whispered to my ears. My heart was beating like music. There was no help. I shouted “help.” I thought I heard a reply but it was my echo. I think I scared a fox. I saw a pale white man. I thought it was a ghost .

I ran like a cheetah. I realised I was running in circles. I saw my mum but it was a little tree. This could be end of my life.

By Zaheem

The wind blew in my face like a tornado. The fog was pitch black. As I tip toed through the forest I could hear the wolves crackling the leaves. The dark trees were dark like the night sky. I walked into them. The hair stood up at the back of my head. I was scared. Scared out of my skin. Would I live or would I die? I heard the call of the wolf howl. I ran fast. Fast as the wind. Finally I saw a bright light so I followed it. I shouted for help but nobody answered.

By Zarina

As I wondered through the dark forest I stopped. I could hear a wolf in the shinning moon. I rushed through the pith black fog. I lost the path. I was scared. I stood still. Nothing was there. I stared towards the swamp. It was as green as goo. Suddenly a hungry crocodile looked at me. I screamed. Save me! Save me! No reply. There was no hope. I would surely die.

I ran turned away. I was crept through the the broken leaves. Wolves and foxes jumped at me. They looked hungry. They ran. There was a tree with eyes. Suddenly there were hundreds of eyes looking. I couldn't see anything. I was terrified. Was this the end?

By Taran

I could feel the spooky fog jumping up on me, as I was going to die. It was like a death trap. The scary house was old and abandoned. As I stepped outside the old, abandoned house it felt as though someone was behind me.......... I hoped someone would find me. The sound of the howling of the wind, or possibly a warewolf, sent shivers down my neck shaking my spine. I was scared. Scared out of my mind.

The cold wind brushed me out off my feet. I was terriiefied. The bright, shining moon glistened like silver in the cold, scary black sky. The trees were breaking there knuckles, snap, snap, snap. The wind was like an howling ghost scenting me and homing in on me. When I walked the ground felt like quick sand. I saw something. I thought it was my teddy. Mr. Teds. I walked towards him. I found out it was just a jumble of leaves. An optical illusion. I was alone once again. I was not happy. My heart was beating faster than usual. My hands started to shiver. I needed to faint. Crunch, crunch, crunch the leaves went. Something was behind me. I knew it. The smell of dampness slivered through my nose.

Suspense Writing

Suddenly I landed in a forest. I rushed though the pitch black forest like a cheetah. I knew there was no hope. I trembled, dropped and looked around. But there was no hope. I heard the trees cracking their fingers in the wind. I was scared. Scared because there was no hope or no help. I thought the wind was a wolf. My hairs stood up. The fog was grey like a wolf. Could it be a wolf really? I knew I was going to die.

By Rehmel

As I walked through the pitch black forest I had a tickle in my long dry throat. The crystal light was hanging above me. Me, the one who was surely going to die. I could see dark fog twisting around me. The smell of dampness slivered through my nose. The sound of the howling wind, or possibly a warewolf, sent shivers down my spine. The creepy trees cracked their fingers trying to talk to me.

I heard the crispy leaves crunch behind me. I thought someone was following me. I quickly ran behind the massive, rustling tree. I heard another leaf crack. I looked at the leaves but no one was there. I shouted but all I heard was my echo. My life was over.

By Oyinde

As I dashed across the trembling forest the wind whispered "beware." I was terrified. Terrified out of my skin. The fog was a dark grey. I looked up. I saw a pitch black sky with a glistening orb. The wind blew like a hurricane as a stick blew across my face. The back of my neck grew tense. The grasp of death had grabbed my neck and strangled me. I felt like one million eyes were watching me. I didn't know what lay ahead.

My hands dried as I saw a shadow. I exclaimed "help someone please help me." The wind roared like a tiger and the trees cracked their fingers in the icy wind. I ran as the wind yelled "I'm coming for you." When I got to the end of the shadow it was a huge tree with a dead raccoon in it.

By Reece

I smelled fear on the spooky, creepy path. All I saw was terrifying eyes just there staring at me. As I tip toed through the dark woods my neck trembled and I felt as if a vulture bird was following me. The bright, shining moon glistened like silver in the cold, scary black sky. The sound of the howling wind, or possibly something more sinister sent shivers down my spine. The wind was like howling ghost. A ghost chasing me and homing in on me. The dark trees, as dark as tar, rustled the icy wind. I was completely scared. Scared out of my skin. The chilling wind tempted the trees to crack their fingers and speak to me. The crystal shining moon mocked me glowing in the scary terrifying sky. I yelled “HELP!” But nobody responded. All I heard was howling. I could hardly see anything but a very terrifying shadow dancing.

By Rayah

I dashed through the dark, scary forest I was trembling at the dark night’s sky, covered in opaque fog. A fog that came down to block my vision. I was choking In the dark, blinding fog, that covered my body. When I escaped the terrifying fog I tripped over a rotten carcase that smelled like toxic waste. Scarily, a dark silhouette reached out and clutched me. I quickly scrambled away from terror, running franticly away into the dark.

I was zooming away like a cheetah into an unknown path, there was a spooky church. Scaring the skeleton out of me. I found myself stuck in a grave yard. I knew there was no hope, but then I saw an airplane. I quickly started running at it only to realize it was a broken boat.

I was scared. Scared out of my skin. My feet were trembling in the dark, scary wind. The smell of dead animals smelt like toxic waste. I fear death. I thought I was going to die. The pitch black sky was like it was roaring like a tiger. I thought someone was coming to get me. Why didn’t I follow the instruction? The sign said KEEP OUT. Now I’m here in fear of my life.

I could see my dog parker. I ran but as I got closer my mistake became clear. It was only a shadow of a tree, a scary tree. I smelt a sense of fear. My dream would never come true. There was no hope of leaving this horrid place. Fear shivered down my spine. I wanted to go home but there was no escape from this dark, lonely haunted place.

One dark night my first foot step touched the creepy pitch black forest. It smelled of a Dead Animal. I saw the icy dark trees. I was scared out of my skin I didn’t know my way back. The wind sounded like a wolf. I ran as fast as i could but I just noticed that I as going in circles . The wind blew my hair. I cried more than ever. I was terrified. I heard a wolf behind me. The leaves were cracking. I saw an old church. It looked like a Haunted house. There was a grave yard. I saw shadows dancing. I was scared to death.

By Kian

While I was rushing through the dark forest I heard a spooky noise. The icy wind blew on my face as quick as a fast animal. Would I die or live? As I tip toed through the spooky forest I heard a wolf crackling the leaves on his way towards me. The dark sky nights full with fog. The hairs on my back stood up. The glowing moon shone upon me. I saw a scary abandoned house.

I saw my white dog roaring at me. I approached as fast as a cheetah but it was not my dog. It was my ball. Bouncing up and down.

By Karina

As I walked through the growing maze I looked back at the glowing yellow moon. Eyes watching every move I make. It was a full moon. The wolves howled in the wind. I was stunned. Stunned with fear as the wind whispered beware! I tried to run but there was no where to go. I heard the trees rustling their fingers in the icy wind. I heard a rattling sound. It was coming from the bushes. I was trapped, scared and terrified. I was terrified of the spell of death upon my soul. The bats flew past as fast as lightning. I saw foot prints. I saw big bear's foot steps. My heart was pounding like a million drums. The wind roared like bears. Would I live or would I die? Would I suffer? I screamed |”HELP!” But no one replied.

By Jenice

As I fled through the forest my claustrophobia was getting worse. The shivers went down my spine. I stopped and stared as the sound of the wind whistled like a howling ghost. Taunting me and homing in on me. The crystal Moon shone in the silhouette sky. Again the ghostly wind howled. The wind blew like a hurricane. The icy wind cracked its fingers and spoke to me saying beware. I was scared. Scared out of my skin. Would I survive or would I die?. My heart was beating like a drum. The scary shadows cast by trees made me feel like someone or something was watching me. The fog was like a big, fat cloud on earth. I could smell the dead carcases on the floor. The carcases smelled like Toxic waste. Could somebody save me? Nothing could save me.

I was still searching in the black forest. It felt like 1000 eyes were watching me. I was searching the darkness for a safe house, for a telephone. I saw something. A house it had to be. It had to be. I quickly rushed, it seemed so near to me it was mostly black. I walked to it. I tried to open it. The door handle was wobbly. It walked to it. It was a picture! I was trapped. It was a trap.

As soon I walked through dark forest the smell of dampness slivered through my nose. When I ran the mud was like quick sand. The wind sounded like a howling wolf. As I tiptoed a tree clicked its fingers made me jump. Would I die or live? For now I would live. I thought a wolf a was behind me. When I turned around there was a old scary abandoned house.

I ran through the trees to the old scary abandoned house. I thought I might find my mum there. I looked at the house. It looked back. It felt like I was in the dark scary haunted house. I was so scared. Scared to death. It felt like I was getting smacked by ghosts. My cries were not heard. It felt like I was shivering. Would I live or would I die?

The opaque fog took away glowing football in the damp sky. Howling wind made me jump. The icy cold wind brushed my hair. My heart was beating like a drum. I ran like a cheetah through the dead of night. I was tripping over rotting animal remains as i ran.

I thought I saw my mum in the distance. It seemed like I took ten minutes of running to travel a hundred metres. I got there. Unfortunately it was just my mum's coat.

By Javarne

As I entered the woods my heart started to beat fast. Fast like how a cheetah runs. The wind was blowing. Blowing heavily on me like a hurricane. I was terrified. I was scared. Scared out my skin.

I hardly could see anything because the fog was pitch black but I could see a crystal sky. I then wondered if I would live or die. I then saw something. I thought it was dead animals. It smelt really bad. I saw something. Something that I thought that I’d seen before. I thought it was my dog. I took a step forward I then realised it was a fox. I yelled help but nobody heard.

By Halimah

I ran through the forest because I heard the wind and it sounded like a wolf. The fog was pitch black. As I ran I started to sweat. I was scared. Scared out of my mind. The dark and scary forest was dark like midnight. The wind was loud because it hit the trees and the trees rustled.

I ran to a tree. I thought it was my mum and my dad. I looked at a shadow. It looked like wolf eyes were all around me. I was petrified. Petrified of the wolf. But no it was spooky trees.

The air was attacking me like hurricane as I walked through the deep creepy woods. As the wind rushed through my skin I tripped over a dead fox. I almost fell in fear of death as blood was all over my legs. I was scared. Scared out of my life. I kept asking myself would I survive? There was a creepy sound. I ran for my life. Splash. I fell into a pond. Frantically I swam. I thought I saw my dog but when I got there it was a football. My heart sank. I felt sad and alone.

I’m scared. I’m scared of the shadows sing and dance around me. My heart is a drum pounding inside me. The crystal light suggested complete darkness. I had to give up. Would I live or would I die? I was terrified. Terrified out of my mind. As I tip toed through the dark woods my neck trembled. I felt as if a vulture bird was following me. Trees tell me to stay and die. I refuse and run!

A wolf trails behind me. As I scream the leaves crackle with laughter. I stare with fear. I see something. Someone. Somehow it’s a person. As I get close the realisation dawns that it’s a corpse. I ran away but all the animals came out and chased me. Is this the end of me ?

By Celeste

As I walked through the deep dark forest and the wind dragged me back. The crystal light was surrounded by the opaque sky. I was scared and alone. Would I live or would I die?

I saw a lady with her dog. I thought the dog would bite me so I ran. The lady said “wait young boy. I will help you.” She grabbed my arm. It hurt me. I shouted “let me go” but she said “NO. Not until you say sorry for hurting my son at school.” I can see my own dog. “Lily” I said. I shouted “Lily come and help me” The lady let me go as Lily was coming. Lily bit the ladies leg. WOOF, WOOF, WOOF went lily. We set off for home. On the front door there was a sign and the sign said “KEEP OUT and don’t come back again.” The nightmare had only just begun.

As I trod through the forbidden forest the wind whistled a howl into my ear. I stopped. When the cold hit me it ran down my back and touched my toes. The smell of carcasses wafted through my nose. The wolves were howling. Howling because I stunk of fear. Fearful because I was alone with no one to hold.

Running away from a shadow that hunted behind me, something grabbed my foot and tripped me up. When my face hit the mud I looked up. I saw my aunt. I ran like a cheater trying to catch her voice. When I got there I looked round. To my dismay it turned out that the fog was playing tricks on me. A tear ran down my cheek. I fell on the ground sitting crossing my legs. Rocking back and forth. Would I survive?

 By Chanecia

I walked through the dark scary forest I hoped someone would hear my cry. As I walked I heard a snap, snap, snap. The wind went threw my body like a ghost. The crystal ball glows in the dark sky. Night fills with fog. I stopped. I sniffed. I sniffed again. All I could smell was death. The death of life.

I yelled and yelled but nobody was there. Suddenly I saw my mum. I cried and cried. As I ran to her my mood changed. It wasn’t my mum. It was an animal hanging on a tree.

By Cvonne

Alone in the scary dark forest I walked along the dusty old path. I could see trees thundering behind me. Suddenly a bush moved. I thought it was a fox. It moved again. I was frightened. I ran off. I stepped on a body. I heard howling. I hoped someone would find me. I was lost. I thought someone was following me.

I can scarcely see the warning sign. KEEP OUT! Why was I here. I wondered what was in there so I opened the large gate. I wandered in. I could smell fear. I looked back then crept over a dead fox. I knew that I should not have come in here.

The dark trees are rustling like rattle snakes. The sound of the howling wind, or possibly a ware-wolf, sends shivers down my spine. I am scared and alone. The leaves crack beneath my feet. Would I survive? Would I see my family again?

By Callum

As I ambled through the dark scary forest leaves crackled beneath my feet. Wind blew. I thought there was a wolf. Fog, pitch black. The crystal light hangs in the sky. Am I going to die?. Carcasses smell of toxic waste I was wondering through the deep dark woods but then I stopped. A vulture was behind me. I ran ran as fast as I could. As I ran shadows danced.

I saw something in the distance. It looked like a man. I rushed to it. It seemed to me like I was mad but I still went. When I got there it was just a stone. The wind blew. It sounded like a ghost. I was petrified. I saw a big house. It was like a haunted house but I didn't enter. As I walked over I saw a dead body and a covered sign. I heard a howl and ran.

By Adam

As I ambled deep into the cold, lonely, mystifying woods my hands trembled and the hairs on the back of my neck stood up. I was scared. Scared out of my skin. I was petrified terrified and maddened. I could smell the dead carcasses lying on the floor. The bright, shinning moon glistened in the cold, scary sky. The dark trees, as dark as coal, rustled into the icy wind. As I tiptoed deeper into the black wood I looked into the mystifying fog, wondering what lay ahead. I stopped. The shadows danced. I thought something was watching me. Perhaps a wolf or a fox or a vulture about to take me as their prey.

I watched around me. There I saw something. Or someone. Maybe my brother. I ran as fast as possible. Shadows and the eyes of millions followed me. I tripped over and stumbled quite a lot but I didn't give up. I reached at last. But it wasn't family. It was a coal black tree.

By Baveeta

As I tip-toed down the pitch black, gloomy, forest I could see the crystal ball shinning bright into the twilight sky. I felt the whistling wind cracking down my back. I heard a snap, just like a crab. Would I live or would I die? The ferocious shadows around the whistling graveyard made me scared. So scared that the fear of death hit me. It hit my heart and almost made me faint.

I saw something at the corner of the spooky forest. It looked like my Mum and Dad. I was filled with joy. While I was making my way through the spiky trees I thought I was saved. I was not. It was just a bunch of scarecrows.

By Adil

As I ambled through the pitch black forest I could feel the winding blowing on me. I smelt the wolves and heard their howls. I was frightened by the black trees clicking their freezing fingers. The shadow of the glowing moon was shining on me. I was running but there was no hope in these terrifying woods.

I wished there could be something to save me, but there was no one. I was shivering through the icy wind until I suddenly froze. I thought I saw a wolf but it was just a shadow staring at me.

Suspense Paragraph part II

Today (Friday) in Literacy we are going to be writing suspense paragraphs set in a dark forest. Use the Wallwisher page to post descriptive sentences to describe the pictures. Remember to use precise adjectives, powerful verbs, metaphors and similes. These descriptive sentences can then be used to enhance your suspense paragraphs.

Suspense Paragraph

In Literacy we have been learning about how authors create tension and build suspense in their writing. Here is Baveeta's attempt at writing a suspense paragraph.

The waves crashed against the dark rocks. I felt around frantically trying to grab something. Pebbles and seaweed tripped and grabbed me. The wind whistled a low mystical tune into my ears. A cold sensation tickled my spine. I thought suddenly of sharks swimming around me, perhaps hearing me or scenting me . I could have drowned. I could feel it. I felt as if the black water was pulling me down. Down into the murky depths below.

Help! Help!” I yelled. Then I saw something or someone. Perhaps mom and dad. I swam hard. They were there, so close yet so far. It felt like days had past in the minutes it took to swim. I’d made it at last. But it wasn’t mom and dad. Just two pieces of driftwood floating idly.

Geography Week

During Geography 5B spent time looking at home humans can affect their environment. Here is Rayah's work, showing ways in which human activity can damage the environment, using GIMP.

Animoto - Rugby World Cup 1995

In 5B we have been looking at how the Rugby World Cup in 1995 helped Mandela to achieve his goal of creating a united South Africa. Here is a short Animoto film made by Jayden, Celeste and Samantha about the events.

Black and Asian History

For Black and Asian history we have been learning about Nelson Mandela. Children have been writing speeches persuading people to end apartheid. Here is Celeste's work.

Apartheid
Greetings my fellow South Africans, my name is Celeste Nembhard. I work for the African National Congress party. I originate from Pretoria and I am here in the spectacular South Africa to warn you about the disgraceful horrible apartheid. My dear brothers and sisters there needs to be change and I am here to make a change.

Surely you would join me in protest as it’s an abomination how Blacks and Asians are not allowed to vote. We, the people of South Africa, own this country and for our rights to be taken away from us means all our time we spent queuing and lining up to vote has gone to waste.

Medical care is needed, especially in the poorer parts of South Africa but no black doctor could take care of a patient as well as a white doctor because they will not have had access to the same training and therefore will not be as qualified. My family your nation is dying out, you need to stand up for what you believe in and save lives. Poor helpless animals suffer when they are abandoned and it’s the same with our people squashed up in tiny corrugated metal huts. The facilities that we live in are vile and disgusting and it needs to stop immediately!

Are we expected to just sit here and suck it in? Would you like it if you had to be treated like a slave living in poor conditions? Naturally I feel that Africa should be respected as a country not one by one.
God save South Africa

Spider's Web

In Literacy we have been looking at a story called Spiders web. The children have been writing letters, pretending to be a character from the story. Here is Malachi's effort.

Dear Mother
Today you would not believe what I got up to,
I managed to trick my future mother in law and have a mini feast in one go.
It started when the other animals and I went up to heaven to find some wives. Everybody was chatting and gibbering about who they would choose as wives. I, on the other hand, was starving so I set off to find food. After a little bit of walking I found a small hut. I went in it an found a colossal pile of juicy, sweet beniseed. Without hesitation I immediately jumped into the pile and started feasting. After that long snack I realized that the pile of beniseed was no longer a pile, instead just a small heap. My ugly, old future mother in law would kill me if she found out. Luckily your son had a cunning plan, I took a handful of beniseed and wiped it on spider pretending, to brush some dust off him. Soon after that mean, old brat (future mother in law) came in complaining that someone had stole the beniseed. Cunningly,  I said lets search the fur of the animals to see who ate the beniseed. We searched all of the animals except spider who was left last as part of the plan. Then I blamed it on spider and now he's in big trouble

Yours sincerely     HARE

Jaidon's story.

Here is Jaidon version of Amul and the Drum.

One sunny day in a small village in India there was a kind caring boy called Amul. Amul always wanted to help his loving poor hard working mother. Amul’s mother cleaned the houses of rich people. She was paid in grain. Amul’s mother would use the grain to feed Amul and she would sell the rest of the grain at the market. One day Amul’s mum asked him “Can I get you anything from the market?” Amul replied “Yes mother drum, a drum please.” Amul’s mother would always smile say “I’ll do my best.” On the way to market she found out the price of grain has been risen. Then she had she enough money to buy a drum so she ran back to the market. On the way she stopped by an old women and five kids. “Please help me.” begged the old women. Amul’s mum gave the money to the old women and in return she got drumstick. Amul loved the drumsticks and took them where ever he would go.
                       Tap, tap, tap
One day he saw an old woman crying loudly. “What’s wrong?” asked Amul. “I want to make fire to bake bread.” The old woman moaned. “Take my drumsticks” replied Amul. “Thank you and bless you” praised the lady. In return Amul got a piece of bread. He carried on with his journey. On the way he stopped by a mother with a crying baby in her arms. “What’s wrong?” Asked Amul, in a concerned way. “It’s my baby, she’’s hungry but I don’t have any food to feed her. Please help me.” She cried. “Take this bread and use it to feed your baby and yourself.” Amul Offered. “Thank you” she yelled and in return he Amul was given a very big pot. On the way home he rolled his pot. That evening by some sad people. “What’s the matter?” said Amul. “I was trying to wash the clothes but my wife broke the washing pot.” Shouted the man. “Here take this pot, I have no need for it.” Said Amul and gave him the pot. In return he was given a fine coat. On his journey Amul came across a freezing cold man. “What’s the matter?” Amul kindly asked. “Bad people jumped out of nowhere and took my clothes and only left me a horse.” “Take this coat.” Replied Amul giving the man his fine coat. The man was so grateful to Amul that he gave him his horse. Amul got on his horse and rode on his way. He went on and stopped by a load of angry people. “What’s the matter?” he asked. A priest replied “We need a horse to take the bride and groom to the wedding or their marriage will have bad luck.” “Take this horse; I have no need for it.” Said Amul. “Thank you, is there anything we can give you in return?” the groom asked. “A drum, a drum please!” Amul yelled excitedly. “Take this drum as a sign of our appreciation.” Replied the groom. Amul thanked the couple and set off for home, beating a good beat on his drum as he went. His mother saw him and smiled.

Even more story writing

and here is Baveeta's work...

Long ago in a small village in India, there lived a young boy named Amul. Amul was a kind boy who always helped his mother. Amul had always wanted a drum. Even when he a was very small boy he tapped his hands on everything he found. His mother, who cleaned houses for rich people in town, would have loved to buy her loving son a drum but was too poor to afford one. Amul’s loving mother always worked hard, but was only paid in grain. Every day when Amul’s hardworking mother went to sell their left over grain she asked Amul what he would like from market. Amul would always reply “A drum, A drum, please.” His mother would try her best, but never had enough money to buy him one. One day Amul’s mother found out that the price of grain had gone up. She sold all her grain, bought all she needed for Amul and herself but still had money left over: Enough for a drum. She ran as fast as she could to the instrument shop but when she turned the corner she saw a poor family. They had no food and their clothes were torn. She gave them money she had for Amuls drum. In return she got some drumsticks. Amul loved the drum sticks and tapped them on everything he found.

One day ,while Amul was playing with his drumsticks, he saw an old woman who needed firewood. Kindly, he gave the old lady his drumsticks to light her fire. In return he got a piece of bread.
He walked on but on the way he heard a baby crying and the parents were Arguing. Amul asked them why they were arguing. The mother angrily told him that her husband had forgotten the food for their baby. Amul gave them the bread that the kind old lady had given him. Thankfully they gave him a beautiful coat.

He put on the coat and set off for home. Later on he saw a man as cold as ice. He was shivering so much he could hardly speak. He eventually told he Amul robbers had stolen all his clothes. Amul gave the man his coat and he thankfully gave Amul his horse.

A little while later Amul saw a bridegroom, his family and some musicians. They were all very sad. Amul asked why they looked so sad. The bridegroom told him that the man with his horse had not arrived. Amul gave the bride groom his horse and in return for his kindness he got a drum.
Amul ran as fast as a cheetah home to his mother, beating his drum as he went. His mother smiled as she heard that her son had finally got what he wanted.
